SAM AND DAN RACE FOR NESQUIK HONOURS ON CHAMPS ELYSEES
TWO British youngsters get to race before the Tour de France crowds on the Champs Elysées on Sunday, before the big race hurtles in.
They are Daniel Forster, 9 (Preston Park Youth CC) and Sam Maslen, 12, (Team Darenth). The pair beat 18 other youngsters in two age categories in a race over the final kilometre of the Nesquik La P’Tite Boucle competition, at the finish of the London - Canterbury stage 1 of the Tour on July 8.
On Sunday they will line up for the final on the famous Champs Elysées, alongside the French and Belgian winners from the other 19 stages.
Preston Park Youth CC and Team Darenth are both British Cycling Go-Ride registered. And following British Cycling’s successful “come and try it” promotions at seven events in London and Kent over the Grand Depart weekend, clubs have seen an increase in the number of young riders showing interest in cycling. BC staff have been working through more than 2000 survey forms completed by participants. They report that 62 per cent of those who took part in Go-Ride events said they would be interested in joining their local Go-Ride cycling club.
All participants will be put in touch with their local clubs.
