TOWN CENTRE RACES RETURN TO SUTTON, SURREY, ON SUNDAY
TOWN centre bike racing returns to Sutton, Surrey, this Sunday (January 29), promoted by Sutton Cycling Club-De Ver Cycles.
The programme features the Women’s Cycle Racing Association (WCRA) National Circuit Championship and an invitation elite, 1st and 2nd category men’s race. The WCRA title race also counts as a round of the National Women’s Circuit Race Series.
The Sutton races are being staged to celebrate the final day of the Tour de France in Paris, and the British riders taking part. The Tour de France roadshow bus will be in Sutton High Street all day.
The short, tight and demanding circuit of only 0.85 kilometres will see riders battle up the climb of the High Street and descend Throwley Way.
The programme opens with youth racing at 10am for under 8/10s, through to under 16s at 11.45.
A race for Sutton Councillors is at 1pm, followed by a Unicycle Sprint Competition!
The main event, t he WCRA championship, is at 1.45. The men’s senior race is at 3.45. The final event of the day, at 4.15, is for 3rd and 4th category men.
In Manor Park, adjacent to the course, a Festival promoting green travel will include British Cycling’s Go-Ride skills tests, cycling demonstrations, live music, circus skills and bicycle try-out area.
