TOMLINSON NAMED IN HONOURS LIST
Jane Tomlinson, the terminal cancer sufferer who last year cycled across America to raise funds for charity, has been given a CBE in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
Tomlinson completed her epic 4,200-mile ride across America in September 2006. Prior to that she has cycles from Land’s End to John O’Groats, and from Rome to her home town of Leeds to raise money for cancer charities.
This is the second time that Tomlinson has received an honour from the Queen. In 2003 she was recognised with an MBE. In December 2002 she was awarded the Helen Rollason Award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.
Due to the advancement of her cancer, Tomlinson has now retired from active charity work although she continues to support events.
Also in the honours list, Jim Hendry - the former General Secretary of British Cycling - received an MBE for services to cycling.
