MACINTYRE WINS NATIONAL 25

AFTER losing the 10-mile title by eight seconds, Jason MacIntyre (The Edge Racing Team) made up for that disappointment when he secured the National 25-Mile Championships at Melling, Merseyside, on Sunday.

MacIntyre clocked 49-44 to win the event, pushing Michael Hutchinson (In Gear RT) into second by 17 seconds, while third spot went to Chris Newton (Recycling.co.uk) who was another 46 seconds off the pace.

MacIntyre had made no secret of his desire to make up for the 10-mile defeat, and looked determined as he headed for the start. He reached the turn at half distance 21 seconds ahead of Hutchinson, and although that gap was whittled down MacIntyre held out for the win.

Newton was third at the turn - 59 seconds behind MacIntyre, and although he maintained his effort over the second leg to finish 1-03 down on the eventual winner, he could not threaten Hutchinson for second spot.

Julia Shaw (GS Strada) was a convincing winner of the women’s title with a time of 58-41, 35 seconds up on second-placed Ruth Eyles (Beacon RCC), while Andrew Griffiths (Glendene CC-Biketrax) was top junior with 55-57.
