CAVENDISH MAKES PROTOUR DEBUT AT CATALONIA
British sprint sensation Mark Cavendish will make his ProTour debut on Monday at the Tour of Catalonia (May 21-27).
The 21-year-old T-Mobile rider has been making excellent progress on the road this season, having won two stages and the overall points jersey at last week’s Four Days of Dunkirk, and before that winning the one-day GP Scheldeprijs race in Belgium, beating ProTour legends Erik Zabel and Robbie McEwen along the way.
T-Mobile Team sporting director Jan Schaffrath commented:
“Mark is a thoroughbred sprinter with excellent prospects but we want to see how he copes on the climbs. Though still buzzing after his winning streak at the Four Days of Dunkirk," said T-Mobile Team sporting director Jan Schaffrath. "Cavendish knows that Catalonia will be a completely different kind of beast. It will be very tough. As a Team we will focus on stage wins, we wont pay special attention to the GC."
Cavendish joins Michael Rogers, Scott Davis, Bernhard Eisel, Linus Gerdemann, Giuseppe Guerini, Kim Kirchen and Jakob Piil in the T-Mobile line-up for the event.
