17-year-old Luke Rowe has signed a one-year deal with British professional team Recycling.co.uk, becoming the eighth rider in the squad’s line-up.
After posting promising results in the junior ranks, Rowe caught the eye of Recycling team manager John Herety. Rowe’s brother Mathew is already in the squad. Coincidentally, Recycling already have one set of brothers signed for 2007, Ryan and Adam Bonser.
Explaining why they were signing such a young rider, Herety told CW that “Luke’s already punching well above his weight. He’s clearly very talented.”
He emphasised that Rowe would not be racing on the team’s international program - “we couldn’t do that because of UCI regulations in any case, he’s too young. We’ll be supporting him on the home side of things instead. Plus, it goes without saying that his commitments to British Cycling will come first.”
