GERMAN visitor Malte Urban left his British rivals trailing to win today’s second round of the National Trophy cyclo-cross series on a new course at Chantry Park, Ipswich.

Urban, aged 31, from near Hanover, attacked with 20 minutes to go in the one-hour race, going clear by himself and crossing the line 12 seconds ahead.

Phil Dixon (Science in Sport.com) and Jody Crawforth (Evans Cycles RT), also second and third in the opening round at Cheltenham behind under-23 rider Ian Field, bagged the other two podium places.

Dixon outsprinted Crawforth for second place and, with Field not defending his early lead, takes over the Trophy lead ahead of Crawforth, the winner for the past two seasons.

As at Cheltenham, Ian Bibby (Trek-SiS) claimed fourth place.
