Ivan Basso is set to ride the Tour of Lombardy race on Saturday after the Italian Olympic Committee closed their investigation into his links with the ‘Operacion Puerto’ doping investigation carried out by Italian police.
In a short communiqué issued on Friday afternoon, the Italian Olympic Committee announced the archiving of the case but said the investigation could be reopened if further evidence arose in the future.
Under the rules of the ethics code agreed by cycling’s major teams Basso is now cleared to race again and has been provisionally entered as a reserve for the Tour of Lombardy.
The CSC team has until Friday afternoon to confirm if Basso will ride.
