Alex Dowsett, riding for the Great Britain Junior squad, has scored a stage win in the Tour du Pays de Vaud in Switzerland.
Dowsett won the 7.8km time trial in Bex on Saturday, June 10. The 17-year-old Glendene CC/BikeTrax rider was delighted with the win: “Being up against so many very good riders I had no way of knowing how I would do so I just gave it everything, nothing left in the tank as I came over the line then it was the agonising wait for the result, I am so pleased,” Dowsett said.
In addition to Dowsett’s stage win, team-mates Jonny Bellis and Mark McNally finished fourth and fifth on the opening 112km road stage.
The Tour du Pays de Vaud is a four-day event comprising five stages running from June 8-11. This year’s event was attended by junior squads from all over Europe and the US.
