Hammond third overall in Tour of Denmark
Roger Hammond wins stage two
Britain’s Roger Hammond has finished third overall in the Tour of Denmark, a result which augers well for the second half of the season.
Hammond’s podium place behind Denmark’s Jakob Fugsland (Saxo Bank) and Maurizio Biondio (Flaminia) came after getting into a break of four on stage four with Cervelo team-mate Jeremy Hunt. Hunt won the stage, whilst Hammond moved into fourth overall.
Then in yesterday’s decisive 15 kilometre time trial, Hammond finished 14th, 40 seconds down on winner Biondio, and moved onto the provisional race podium.
Today’s 150 kilometre stage to Frederiksberg ended in a bunch sprint won by Germany’s Sebastian Seidler (Voraltech) and did not see any changes overall.
Fourteenth last year in the same race after getting four top ten places on four different stages, Hammond’s latest result in Denmark confirms the Cervelo rider is good shape for the second half of the year.
