Britain's Jonny Bellis is still in a critical but stable position following a scooter accident last Saturday.

According to British Cycling, Bellis underwent surgery on Friday morning to remove a blood clot between his brain and forehead.

The Italian doctors in Florence were happy how the operation went but again put Bellis in an artificially induced coma to help his recovery.

Depending on his condition over the weekend, doctors may bring Bellis out of the coma on Monday.

Bellis crashed on Saturday night near his home in Quarrata in Tuscany. He was found by the side of the road and taken to a local hospital before bring transfer to the specialist Careggi hospital on Florence.

His parents have been with him since Sunday, with Under 23 coach Max Sciandri assisting and translating. Mark Cavendish has also been visiting Bellis in hospital and helping his parents.

Great Britain Performance Director Dave Brailsford visited Bellis at the start of the week and Shane Sutton also traveled to Tuscany on Thursday.

I flew over the handlebars of my Sirrus Carbon Ltd a sunken drain to blame, on June 27th this year, and i am now home after 2 months in hospital with a brain injury and half my skull still implanted in my stomach. The Sirrus is fine except a buckled wheel, with any luck i will be finished in surgery in 2 months, and back on the bike, and back at work.

I have no outstanding disabilities age 44 and wish Jonny the same luck as i have had !!!!!
