Road World Champion Cadel Evans will make his debut in rainbow-striped BMC kit at the 2010 Tour Down Under in January.

Evans and his new BMC Racing Team have been provisionally granted a wildcard invite to the opening ProTour event of the 2010 season.

BMC, a Professional Continental team, will join the full ine-up of ProTour squads at the Australian stage race, which will include Lance Armstrong's new Radio Shack outfit and the debut of the British-based Team Sky.

"Its a privilege to be able to present my new jersey and my new BMC Racing Team to the Australian public and the rest of the world at the Santos Tour Down Under in January," Evans said in a statement released by the event's organiser.

It will be the first time that an Australian rider has worn the rainbow jersey of road world champion and competed on home soil.

Evans announced his shock departure from Belgian team Silence-Lotto at the weekend, and within days had announced that he'd signed to the American BMC Racing Team. Evans joins George Hincapie, Alessandro Ballan, Marcus Burghardt and Karsten Kroon at the squad.

Evans is confident that the BMC team will secure a wildcard invite to the 2010 Tour de France, and he's making no secret that the race is his big target of the season.

The Tour Down Under will be held in South Australia from January 17-24, 2010.
