Alex Dowsett has signed with the US-based Trek-LiveStrong squad, the under-23 development team created by Lance Armstrong to nurture the next generation of top riders.

The British rider has been in demand since he came an excellent seventh in the under-23 time trial at the World Championships in September.

Rapha-Condor team manager John Herety had signed Dowsett earlier this year, but they had an agreement to release him if a Pro Continental team came in for him.

Vacansoleil made an approach, and then there was interest from the Trek-Livestrong squad.

"Even though they are not Pro Continental, we feel that if there is an opportunity to join the Trek-LiveStrong team it is one we can't stand in the way of," said Herety.

The deal is expected to be confirmed soon.

Trek-Livestrong is currently home to US track and road sensation Taylor Phinney, and is run by former pro rider Axel Merckx, son of the legendary Eddy Merckx.
