THE funeral of cycling cartoonist Johnny Helms, who died last week aged 85, will be on Friday, November 13,  at 9.45am, at St Lukes Church, Farnworth, Widnes, Cheshire.
A service at Widnes Crematorium will follow.
Helms' well-loved cartoons were illustrated in Cycling Weekly for over 63 years,  a record breaking run unequalled in IPC Media, and most likely in British publishing history.
He overtook cycling illustrator Frank Patterson's 58-year record in 2004, an achievement Helms was extremely proud of.
An obituary is published in Thursday's issue of Cycling Weekly.

Show some of his better remembered cartoons over the decades, as a memorial in the magazine.

I'm really sorry to hear this sad news. Johnny's cartoons were loved my many. He was a fine artist with a tremendous wit.

I too am very sorry to hear of Johnny Helms's passing, and it would be great if some of his work could appear in Cycling Weekly. 'Baz' was the highlight of the week in the mid to late 1950s.
One of my favourite cartoons was the one with Baz getting into a skid with a trike. The last of the three pictures was a post with two tracks on one side and one on the other!
One of the greats.
