Wyman and Day top ten in Koksijde 'cross

British riders Helen Wyman and Gabby Day placed inside the top ten of Saturday's UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup round in Koksijde, Belgium.

Wyman (Kona-FSA) place ninth with Day right behind her in 10th at the infamously gruelling event run off in the sand dunes of Koksijde. Fellow Brit Nikki Harris placed 12th.

Prior to the race, Wyman had been hoping for a podium place but the blistering pace of Dutch duo Marianne Vos (Dsb Bank-Nederland Bloeit) and Daphny Van Den Brand (ZZPR.nl-Destil-Merida) proved a little too much for most of the riders.

Cyclo-cross World Champion Vos went on to win the round with Van Den Brand second and Katherine Compton (Planet Bike) third.

Compton now leads the women's World Cup rankings after four rounds, with Wyman in ninth. Day is 13th overall.

Czech rider Zdenek Stybar (Telenet Fidea Cycling Team) won the men's even, just pipping Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet-Colnago) to the line. Britain's Ian Field (Hargroves Cycles) was 34th with British national 'cross champion Jody Crawforth (Arctic-Premier RT) in 40th.

World Cup leader Niels Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) placed fourth in the round - enough to retain the series lead overall.
