Danilo di Luca has been given an eye-watering fine of 280,000 Euros to go with his two-year ban for a positive EPO-Cera test at last year's Giro.

This move is in accordance with the UCI Anti-Doping Rule Article 326, that establishes a fine of 70% of the net annual income of a rider committing an offence punished by a suspension of two or more years.

The 2007 Giro d'Italia winner is expected to go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to appeal both fine and ban.

Financial penalties have also been imposed on two other riders who were recently suspended by their national federations for doping offences.

Former Dauphiné Libéré winner Iñigo Landaluze and Maurizio Biondo will be charged €27,300 and €13,750 for their respective indiscretions.
