Brit Daniel Lloyd (Cervélo TestTeam) is at the hospital following a crash in stage one of the Etoile de Bessèges today. He went off the side of the road at the end of the 146-kilometre stage to Le Grau du Roi, France.

"I slid on my stomach on some grass on the side of the road and hit my head on a tree quite fast," he said. "It sort of compressed the top of my spine a bit."

In the next hours, he will know more following X-rays, but did not immediately indicate he had fractured bones.

Borut Bozic (Vacansoleil) won the sprint ahead of Nico Eeckhout (An Post-Sean Kelly) and Arnaud Molmy (Team Roubaix-Lille Métropole).
