Video: Haywards Heath Howler Sportive

An unexpected bonus of the Wiggle Super Series of sportive bike rides has been the short videos made for each one by 26-year-old Southampton film maker Ross Chapman.

The three minute films each manage to convey the range of emotions that participants run through on a day that for many is a real sporting challenge. The pensive fettling of bikes at the start, the gritted-teeth smiles on the way and the hugs and hand shakes at the finish - it's all there.

But of course, for events where the routes are chosen to take in the glories of the British countryside, the real stars are the views.

According to Chapman, "the villages and scenery are just amazing - unspoiled, quiet little gems."

Martin Barden from UK Cycling Events, the organizers of the Wiggle Super Series, says, "We started out just wanting to give the riders a memory of the event and so that they can show their friends to encourage more people to get out and ride."

"Plus, it's a great way of showing potential riders the quality of our events. But we seem to have found almost a cult following with something like 15,000 views of the 10 films Ross has so far made."

Next event in the Wiggle Super Series is the  'New Forest 100 Sportive'  on Sunday 3rd October 2010 with 100-mile 'epic', 70-mile 'standard' and 40-mile 'fun' routes.

The latest video for last Sunday's Haywards Heath Howler is below plus we've put a few more from the series in case you missed them.
