Trott's Worlds ride 'fantastic', says GB coach

Brit Laura Trott's ride to fourth at the Junior World Championships today in Offida, Italy, impressed her sports director and proved she is on target for a track title.

"She has been preparing for the individual pursuit, really," said Keith Reynolds. "The time trial was a bit of an add-on for her and was probably 13 kilometres too far."

Trott finished fourth on the 15-kilometre course from Acquaviva Picena to Offida, 53 seconds from winner Canna Solovei (Ukraine). Solovei defended last year's win and France's Pauline Ferrand Prevot repeated her second place. Amy Cure (Australia) took the bronze, 40 seconds ahead of Trott.

Her ride was even more impressive since it was her first time to compete for a World title.

"It is a completely different ball game to a local club race in the UK," added Reynolds.

"She has not prepared specifically for the time trial, which makes it even a better performance in that respect. She was quiet disappointed she did not get a medal, but from my point of view, she rode a fantastic race."

Trott raced to a European individual pursuit title last year. This year, she won the 10-mile national road title in Great Britain in May and Omloop van Borsele stage race in April.

Tomorrow, she travels to Montichiari for the junior track world championships.
