Britain's Roger Hammond has been named as reserve rider for Cervelo Test Team's line-up for the 2010 Vuelta a Espana, starting in Seville on Saturday (August 28).

The 36-year-old is on standby should one of the nine named Cervelo riders drop out before the start of this year's final Grand Tour.

Hammond rode for Cervelo in last year's Vuelta, which started in Assen, Netherlands, before progressing to the Belgian roads that Classics specialist Hammond loves. He placed third on stage two and seventh on stage three.

Confirmed in Cervelo's 2010 Vuelta line-up are two strong sprint options in the shape of Thor Hushovd and Theo Bos. Overall hope Carlos Sastre will be looking to amend the disappointment of a lacklustre Tour de France performance. Sastre will be aided by Spanish team-mates Inigo Cuesta, Xavier Florencio, Oscar Pujol and Xavier Tondo.

Philip Deignan completes the line-up - Deignan won stage 18 of last year's Vuelta to become the first Irishman to win a Grand Tour stage since 1992.

Philippe Mauduit, Alex Sans Vega and Jens Zemkewill be directing the team.

The 21-stage 2010 Vuelta a Espana starts in Seville on Saturday, August 28, and finishes in Madrid on Sunday, September 19.
