GB team for Euro track champs announced
Olympic champions Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton will lead the British team at the first senior European track championships in Poland in November.
The pair head a team of 15 riders who start the Olympic qualification process in the Pruszków velodrome, south east of Warsaw. Former sprinter Jason Queally is named in the endurance team as he continues to experiment with the team pursuit, and Alex Dowsett will also travel to Poland.
Dowsett competed on the track when he rode with the BC Olympic Academy, but hasn't ridden a senior international championships before. His selection comes after a stellar season on the road where he became European under-23 time trial Champion.
Current academy rider Luke Rowe has also been named along with Steven Burke, Ed Clancy and Andy Tennant in the endurance camp.
Junior rider Laura Trott gains her first senior selection after a stunning period of success in August that saw her win one gold and two silver medals at the junior world track championships. Trott is likely to ride the Omnium - the event in which she became junior world champion - as she competes with Lizzie Armitstead for the sole Olympic slot for the event.
The championships take place from November 5 - 7 and are a new event, added to the calendar following the UCI's decision to change the process of Olympic qualification a little more than two years before the London Olympics.
The need for Olympic qualification points saw both Pendleton and Hoy pull out of next week's Commonwealth Games, well before the latest problems arose.
Big names missing from the squad include Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Rebecca Romero and Rebecca James. Wiggins has said he will be riding the Manchester world cup next February as he plans a gradual comeback to the track ahead of London 2012 while Cavendish is expected to decide nearer the time whether or not he wishes to ride.
