Team Sky - IG Markets event cancelled after rider collapses
A man collapsed while competing in the IG Markets Square Mile Challenge today, after which the event was immediately cancelled.
The Challenge, where members of the public got to take on Sky riders, on Wattbikes over the distance of a mile, was put on to promote the new sponsorship deal between the financial services company and the British pro team.
According to one witness the man collapsed while competing over the one mile distance against Bradley Wiggins and other members of the public. He was eventually taken away in an ambulance.
The event at Broadgate Circle had been going on since 10am this morning when members of staff from IG Markets had tested themselves against Russell Downing, Geraint Thomas, Ben Swift and Wiggins.
The afternoon's racing was oversubscribed as cyclists had signed up to try and beat the Sky riders and win a Pinarello bike.
