British women aim for Cali World Cup

Britain's female team pursuiters will come up against their international rivals for the first time this season at the second round of the 2010/11 UCI Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia, from Thursday to Saturday (December 16-18).
Having missed out on riding the opening round of the World Cup in Melbourne two weeks ago, the British trio of Wendy Houvenaghel, Katie Colclough and Laura Trott will have a chance to spin their legs against the world's best in the fight for 2012 Olympic Games qualification points.
Having scored a bronze medal in Melbourne after a shock ousting from the gold final at the hands of Russia, the male British team pursuiters sit out Cali. Instead, Omnium world champion Ed Clancy will contest the multi-discipline event without subsequently having to also ride the team pursuit and it will be interesting to see if he can improve on his omnium bronze medal in Melbourne.
The Cali round includes a women's individual pursuit, but no men's individual pursuit. With the individual pursuit withdrawn from the 2012 Olympic Games programme, it remains to be seen if any of the British team pursuit women elect take part in the individual event the day after the team final.
GB sprinters are well represented, with Sir Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny and Matt Crampton along with women Victoria Pendleton and Jess Varnish variously taking part in the team sprint, individual sprint and keirin events.
Britain finished the Melbourne event with two gold medals, three silver and two bronze. A total of 13 gold medals are on offer in Cali.
