Olympic champion Rebecca Romero has been forced to postpone her return to track racing at this weekend's Manchester round of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup due to injury.

The Londoner had been scheduled to be part of Great Britain's endurance line-up at the final round of the 2010-11 World Cup, but medical staff have advised her to sit out the round after suffering a minor injury. She will now focus on selection for the Track World Championships in March.

Romero claimed individual pursuit gold in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing after making a switch from rowing where she won silver in the 2004 Olympic Games.

After the individual pursuit was dropped from the Olympic cycling schedule, Romero swicthed to riding in road time trial events and was even rumoured at one point to be considering a third Olympic sport.

The Manchester round of the 2010-11 UCI Track World Cup takes place from Friday February 18 to Sunday February 20 at the National Cycling Centre. The 2011 Track Cycling World Championships take place in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, over March 23-27.
