Lizzie Armitstead

British track endurance rider Lizzie Armitstead has been forced to pull out of this month's UCI Track Cycling World Championships in the Netherlands (March 23-27) due to injury.

Armitstead was scheduled to ride the omnium, but is suffering from side strain.

British Cycling has said that Armitstead is receiving treatment for the strain and is expected to make a full recovery but not in time for the track worlds.

Laura Trott - whose name was already on the worlds roster - will take Armitstead's place in the multi-discipline omnium.

Britain's pick for the women's team pursuit will be announced next week.

Former Associate Editor

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
