He may have won stage two of the 2009 Tour, but history shows Mark Cavendish needs time to find his sprinting feet (and legs) in three-week races.
This should be his second opportunity for the victory, with just one fourth category climb lining the route, and that's in the first 50km of racing.
The slightly uphill finish is similar to that on stage ten of this year's Giro into Teramo which Cav won. Once again, cross winds could be prominent, especially with the final 70km travelling alongside the sea.
