Bradley Wiggins crashes out, Tour de France 2011, stage seven

After flying back home to Britain last night, Bradley Wiggins is due to be operated on Monday on his broken collarbone.

The British star's operation on his broken left collarbone, which will take place in Manchester, comes less than 24 hours after he crashed out of the Tour de France, where he was lying sixth overall.

If all goes well in such cases cyclists may start riding on the indoor rollers as soon as five days time and in ten days could be riding on normal roads.

However, it may be up to a month before the Sky rider is back to full strength.

Wiggins is understood to have no further injuries apart from the collarbone itself, which is believed to be a clean break.

Sky are remaining guarded about when the British star's return to racing will be, although the World Time Trial Championships in September remains the final big goal for the 31-year-old Londoner this season.

However, the Tour of Spain has not been ruled out, and the Tour of Britain is another possibility. There is speculation that Wiggins may even ride the Tour of Denmark on August 3-7.
