Evans' Tour win to be honoured in Melbourne
Cadel Evans will fly back to Australia next week to be honoured at a public reception in Melbourne, following his historic Tour de France win.
A report on the ABC News website says a ceremony will take place in Federation Square, opposite the famous Flinders Train station, followed by a short public ride along St Kilda road.
Ted Baillieu, the Premier of Victoria, has called Evans Australia's greatest ever sportsman, and is asking all fans to wear yellow to celebrate.
Following his Tour de France win, Evans has been riding on the lucrative post-Tour criterium scene in northern Europe. His racing program for the remainder of the year is still unclear, although he would be expected to ride at the world championships in Copenhagen and then the Tour of Lombardy.
