Steve Cummings fractures pelvis in Algarve
Steve Cummings, World Championships 2009, men's road race
Britain's Steve Cummings has fractured his pelvis in a crash at the Tour of the Algarve. The BMC rider came down when another rider hit him from behind.
The crash came early in Friday's stage won by Sky's new signing Richie Porte, after strong work by Bradley Wiggins. The same stage that Cummings himself won last year.
Although Cummings was able to walk after the crash, he now faces up to two weeks off the bike and at least a month out of racing, putting his classics season in jeopardy.
The Tour of the Algarve was only Cumming's third race of the year after he completed the Trofeo's Deia and Migjorn in Majorca earlier this month.
