After ten days of racing without a break, the high mountains arrive with a big slap around the face.
The day starts off calmly with a fairly flat first half before the ascent of the Col de Joux. After plummeting down the mountain to Chatillon, it's then straight back up again to Cervina for the first mountain-top finish of the race.
Today will be the first chance for the overall contenders to properly make a mark on the race, and we expect to see a new rider in the maglia rosa.
