Dibben finishes fifth in junior men's road race
Jon Dibben, World Championships 2012, junior time trial
Great Britain's Jon Dibben narrowly missed out on a medal in today's junior men's road race in Valkenburg.
Dibben had to settle for fifth in the 128km-long race which, despite the presence of the Cauberg so close to the finish, ended in a bunch sprint. Slovenia's Matej Mohoric took the victory.
However, the 18-year-old was not downbeat despite his near medal miss. "I wasn't really looking to get a result in the road race, so finish in the top five, I've got to be happy with that," he said.
"It was a really good team ride, and for the lead-out on the last lap for me was perfect, they put exactly where I needed to be. It was pretty close on the line."
Three of his British team-mates - Tao Geoghegan Hart, Alex Peters and Germain Burton - finished within the bunch, with Christopher Lawless and Will Stephenson finishing slightly behind having worked for Dibben.
