Ivan Santaromita wins Giro del Trentino stage three from break

Ivan Santaromita wins, Giro del Trentino 2013, stage three

Italian Ivan Santaromita (BMC Racing) squeezed out fellow escapees Michele Scarponi (Lampre-Merida) and Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) to take the stage three win in the Giro del Trentino on Thursday.

The trio had been part of a larger 11-man breakaway, and had forged an uncatchable margin over the peloton. In the final few kilometres of the race a game of cat and mouse ensued. Tiralongo took the lead and surged for the line, but Santaromita came around him to take the win. Scarponi appeared to fade and finished in third.

Former Associate Editor

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
