WHERE ARE WE?
On the north coast of Normandy at France's second-most famous tourist trap after the Eiffel Tower. Mont St Michel is a granite outcrop in the sea, upon which has been built an incredibly photogenic abbey, leaving just enough space for a good number of tourist shops selling overpriced tat.
WHAT'S ON THE ROUTE?
It's a straightforward, flat time trial. There won't be much in the way of tactics in tackling the route, just a question of pace judgement and holding an uncomfortably high level of effort for about 38 minutes.
WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?
This year's Tour might have the reputation of one that doesn't favour time triallists, but that doesn't mean today isn't going to be a key battle. If there are two climbers more or less equally matched in the mountains, the difference between them today could make all the difference.
World time trial champion Tony Martin has to rank as one of the front runners for the stage win. The big question is, where are the GC favourites relative to each other, coming out of the Pyrenees?
