At their final training camp in Spain the NetApp Endura riders had a chance to use their new team issue Endura Airshell helmet, the Scottish outfit’s first venture in helmets.
There’s not much revolutionary about the shape or venting design – though it looks compact and tidy – but it is light (the Small is a claimed 220 grams), comes in three sizes and is priced at £89.99.
New NetApp Endura rider Erick Rowsell has already put one through the ultimate real world test, coming off on a (relatively slow speed) descent in Spain and landing heavily.
“The lid did its job,” laughed Rowsell, “because I’m still standing, but, seriously, it wrecked the lid and absorbed the shock, so all I got was a headache rather than anything worse.”
We heard no muttered complaints about fit while we lurked around the team bus or truck either, and although there was plenty fiddling with padding, there were no tell-tell red lines etched in foreheads at the cafe stop…
The helmet will be available in four colours in addition to team replica paint scheme, comes with spare padding to keep it all smelling sweet rather than sweat and is covered by Endura’s crash replacement policy. The helmets will be on sale in March.
