Omnium champions reignite rivalry at Revolution

The season finale of Revolution on Saturday January 15 will host a GB versus Australia clash as the world's two best Omnium riders come face to face on the Manchester boards.

World Madison Champion and World Omnium runner-up Leigh Howard will make the trip to the Manchester Velodrome to take on the reigning World Omnium Champion Ed Clancy. With the World Championships a couple of months away Revolution will provide a fascinating contest as both riders aim to take first blood in the 2011 season.

"Leigh is a really good rider and will be one of the main rivals for the World Omnium title," commented Clancy. "I'm focused on retaining the title at the World Championships in March so it will be good to race against Leigh at Revolution. There will be several of Omnium disciplines on the programme and the racing will be fast so it will be a good test."

Both riders will be on good form with Clancy taking the Omnium gold at the Cali World Cup and Howard taking Madison and Team Pursuit gold at the Melbourne World Cup. They will get the chance to test their pursuit legs at Revolution as they will feature in the Australian Pursuit as part of the Revolution team competition.

In the sprint racing Dutch riders Teun Mulder, Roy Van Den Berg and Yondi Schmidt will be joined by American Giddeon Massie as they challenge British sprinters Ross Edgar, Craig MacLean, Pete Mitchell and Philip Hindes.
