Omnium silver for Dibben at Junior Track Worlds

Great Britain's Jon Dibben underlined his future potential by taking silver in the omnium at the Junior Track World Championships in New Zealand today.

Dibben sat fourth after the opening three rounds but leapfrogged Australian Tirian McManus and Ukranian Vladyslav Kreminskyi to complete the podium after a strong second day of competition.

Having won the flying lap on Thursday, Dibben also took victory in the Individual Pursuit and finished fifth in the scratch race. Going into the final round - the Kilo - Dibben sat joint second with McManus, but the Briton's impressive victory ride of 1-03.546 was enough for him to take the silver medal. Interestingly, his time would have been good enough for bronze in the Kilo final.

In the women's event, Elinor Barker is well-placed to emulate Dibben's achievement, as she sits in second after the opening three rounds. Consistency has been the name of her game; she finished second in the elimination race, third in the flying lap and fourth in the points race. Defending champion Taylah Jennings (AUS) tops the standings, with a perfect score of three points having won all of today's events.

Double bronze medallist Amy Roberts finished fourth in the scratch race, while Matt Rotherham won a repechage to progress to the quarter-finals of the men's sprint.
