Hunt Bike Wheels is a Sussex-based maker of quality wheels designed for UK riding conditions. Its initial focus was on rim braked wheels, but it has now increased its disc brake wheel options.

Hunt’s first four wheelsets were introduced in the spring. There were three rim braked wheelsets as well as the Mason x Hunt disc braked wheels which were designed for Mason Progressive Cycles’ newly launched aluminium and steel bikes. Now Hunt has added five new models to its disc brake wheel line-up.

Carbon rimmed options

Top of the tree is the Hunt 50 Carbon Wide Disc. As its name suggests, this has a 50mm deep carbon rim. This is U-shaped for aerodynamic performance and at 26mm external, 18mm internal width follows the industry trend towards increased rim widths.

>>> Do you need deep section wheels?

These wheels run on carbon hubs and are laced with 24 front and rear 2-crossed straight pull aero bladed spokes.

In common with Hunt’s other disc wheelsets, there’s a degree of future proofing too. The rims are tubeless ready, coming with tubeless tapes and valves, and the hubs are supplied with quick releases and adaptors for 15mm thru axles.

>>> Is this the end for the quick release?

Adaptors for 10mm and 12mm thru axles can be bought separately, as can a SRAM XD driver body and converters to 142mm axle width. The hubs have a centerlock disc mount but are supplied with 6-bolt adaptors too.

Hunt claims a weight of 1612 grams for the 50 Carbon Wide Disc, which will retail at £949.

The 38 Carbon Wide Disc wheelset comes with a carbon rim of the same width as the 50 Carbon Wide, but with a 38mm rim depth. It too is priced at £949, but the claimed weight is reduced to 1529g.

More alloy rimmed options

Go down to 28mm rim depth and 22mm external width and rim material switches to aluminium in the Aero Light Disc Road wheelset. The part-carbon hubs and spoking pattern are retained. The Aero Light Disc Road wheelset weighs a claimed 1449 grams and costs £459.

Hunt has also brought out a new disc wheelset aimed at gravel and cyclocross riders. Priced at £349 and weighing 1589g, the 4Season Gravel Disc Road/CX wheelset has 24mm deep and 24mm external, 19mm internal width alloy rims. Hunt claims that these will handle gravel tyres up to 45mm wide, whilst also taking tyres of a more conventional 25mm width. There are 28 J-bend round spokes front and rear for extra resilience and the hubs are aluminium.

Finally, the 4Season Dura Disc wheelset, at 1759 grams, is priced at £239. The asymmetric alloy rims are 24mm deep and 22mm wide, with a 17mm internal rim width.

Hunt will continue to sell its original disc wheelset, the Mason x Hunt 4Season at £349 and with 27mm deep by 23mm wide rims and a claimed weight of 1585 gra
