MassifCentral looks for Kickstarter funding to automate its infographic production process

MassifCentral turns sporting data into an infographic art work, which you can display on your wall. It produces off-the-shelf infographics for large races like the Tour de France as well as major marathons. Chris Froome is apparently a fan.

The company was set up in May 2014, after a bunch of friends completed a long-distance cycling adventure. They wanted to produce a memento of the trip that showed the story and looked beautiful too.

As well as its stock infographics you can also get a totally bespoke poster for your own achievements. At the moment this involves sending your data to MassifCentral’s graphic artists, to make up into the finished product.

Over time, it’s streamlined the production process, but there’s still a lot of manual input.

But now MassifCentral is looking to raise £55,000 via Kickstarter to automate the process. The aim is to develop an on-line portal, which it calls The Massifier. It’s already developed the in-house version of the infographic production software.

Now it wants to develop a self-service user portal that allows you to upload your own data, play with the look of the infographic and select what to exclude and what to omit.

You can then add your own text around the image. The software will let you preview the finished product before pressing the button to generate the print in A3 up to A1 size, which MassifCentral will then mail to you.

The Kickstarter campaign is now live and closes on Saturday December 10, with backers getting rewards based on their funding level, including the option of a 3D rendering of their ride data. Delivery of the new portal is planned for May 2017.

The portal doesn’t just handle cycling and running: triathlon, skiing and sailing, in fact any activity which generates data can be turned into a design. More details on MassifCentral’s website.
