With the Cyclocross World Championships on Sunday, Sven Nys’s brilliant career in the mud is drawing to a close, although that doesn’t mean that he will be retiring any time soon as he has bought the Telenet-Fidea team and will be managing it next season.

The World Championships will be held at Heusden-Zolder in Belgium on the same circuit used for a round of the cyclocross World Cup on Boxing Day 2015, a race won by Mathieu van der Poel.

Here’s the Trek Boone bike which Nys rode at that race. With its bright yellow paintwork and Nys’s matching shoes, it’s easy to spot on the start line and throughout the race.

The Boone has a carbon frame with Trek’s Isospeed decoupler between the seat tube and the top tube-seatstay junction. This also features on Trek’s Domane and the new Madone road bikes and is designed to provide a more vertically compliant ride.

Trek continues to offer the Boone in both disc and cantilever versions. Nys rode almost exclusively discs in early season races including his 50th World Cup win at Koksijde in November but rode cantis at Heusden-Zolder and other more recent races.

As with the rest of his running gear the brakes are supplied by Shimano.

Nys’s Boone has Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 shifting, with a 46/39 chainset and 172.5mm cranks. His Shimano SPD pedals are marked “Prototype”, although they look like standard XTRs.

Nys runs a Bontrager Aeolus 3 carbon tubular wheelset, shod with the hand-made Dugast tubulars which are pretty much the standard for top end cyclocross racing.
