Around 1,000 bikes affected, sold between July 2015 and September 2016
Specialized is recalling on S-Works and Pro level models of its Venge ViAS aero bike after reports that the rear wheel could come loose from the dropouts and fracture the bike’s rear end, with one rider suffering minor injuries after this caused a crash.
The recall appeals to around 1,000 Venge ViAS bikes sold with rim brakes between July 2015 and September 2016, whether sold as complete bikes or as framesets only.
The California-based company has urged any owners of Venge ViAS bikes to stop riding them with immediate effect and take them into an authorised Specialized dealer where mechanics will be on hand to install a new rear derailleur hanger that will hopefully fix the problem. The dealer will also carry out an inspection of the rear triangle to check for any damage and give you a free Specialized gift in return.
The recall does not apply to the new Specialized Venge ViAS Disc that was launched a couple of months ago, with that bike coming with thru-axles rather than a traditional dropout design.
The full recall notice can be found here, and owners are being encouraged to email email@example.com or call 020 8391 3502 if they have any questions.
