Campagnolo 2011 Athena "fills them with pride"
2011 Athena will be available with shiny silver Ergopower levers to match the rest of the groupset.
According to the Italian company, "This is the groupset that really fills Campagnolo with pride. It has everything needed to amaze everyone who tries it. It's the 11-speed drivetrain that combines technology, performance features, versatility, operating precision and Campagnolo quality, all at an exceptional price position."
Biggest news is an overall reduction of 80 grams mostly as a result of the adoption of the simpler, one-piece-axle Power Torque bottom bracket unit although there are parings here and there on the weight of most of the components.
Most welcome will be a satin anodised silver alloy finish as an option on all parts, although the carbon and black finish will still be available.
The cassette options and chain are shared with the Chorus groupset with 11-23, 11-25, 12-25, 12-27 and 12-29 options. Note that the 34 tooth inner chainring on the 'compact' version of the chainset derives a 32" bottom gear with a 29-tooth bottom sprocket, which should be adequate for anyone.
It's still early days for pricing but we're expecting a small reduction in line with the 10-speed Veloce and Centaur groups to reflect the simpler one-piece axle in the Power Torque bottom bracket.
