Basso & Nibali sign Fizik saddles for charity
Fizik the saddle brand and sponsor of the Liquigas Cannondale professional team has collared top riders Ivan Basso and Vincenzo Nibali to sign a limited run of 50 Antares saddles in aid of the "Insieme si può" charity.
The Italian charity is fighting hunger, poverty and underdevelopment in Uganda and is a personal interest of Barbara Bigolin, the CEO of Selle Royal SpA which owns the Fizik brand.
At a recent house party, the 2010 Giro d'Italia winner Ivan Basso and his team-mate Vincenzo Nibali, who won the Vuelta a España, got down to signing the 50 special versions of the saddles that will be sold on a special website.
Available only in white with either a blue or red version of the charity's logo, the 145 gram saddles will sell for a minimum of €200 and are available to order now.
Having secured one, the big decision will be whether to actually ride it.

British company offers new waterproof bike panniers and a handlebar bag
A company from Surrey whose slogan is "Waterproof gear for beach, board and life" has launched its first range of bike gear; panniers for front and rear plus a handlebar bag.
OverBoard, a manufacturer of waterproof travel and sports gear and an official kit supplier to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has announced a range of waterproof bike panniers designed to fit on a front or rear rack. There is also a handlebar bag that attaches with a modern-style click-lock bracket.
Made from tough PVC tarpaulin, the new bags are 100 per cent waterproof, according to OverBoard. The simple roll-top sealing system and electronically-welded seams provide 100 per cent protection even for quick submersion in water and each pannier has a tough and hard base plate for further protection of the contents and the bike.
The 6-litre Handlebar Bag, 12-litre Front Wheel Pannier and the 16-litre Back Wheel Pannier each have an internal zip pocket and there's a detachable shoulder strap for the 'bar bag.
Available only in a neutral light grey fabric colour, there are reflective front and side patches. We haven't tried the bags yet but OverBoard assure us that the panniers' quick-release clip system is compatible with most standard bike rack systems.
6-litre waterproof Handlebar Pannier £32.99
12-litre waterproof Front Wheel Pannier £34.99
16-litre waterproof Back Wheel Pannier £42.99
Video: Eureka moment results in handy Andystand
We may have become accustomed to peering through the large hollow centre of modern bottom bracket axles but an engineer called Andy thought it would be - ahem - 'andy to take advantage of the opportunity and use the space for introducing the support of a quick and simple workstand.
There are plenty of cyclists who would like to take a fully fledged work stand to races but if you don't have the car space or the inclination to spend £100-plus, the £39.99 AndyStand seems a very good solution.
Rapha clothing gets through, whatever. At least if you live in London
London-based clothing company Rapha has a number of employees who used to work as bicycle couriers. They must have been relieved to leave the world of homicidal cabbies and freezing rain so imagine their joy at being press-ganged back into deliveries when the recent weather put the usual freight companies into a tiz.
By the time you read this it should be nearly all over but spare a thought for the gallant riders who ensured that Rapha's special parcels made it to postcodes as remote as SE18 and E9 before Christmas. Rapha were charging £15 for guaranteed, same day London deliveries but donating it to the Prostate Cancer Charity and London Courier Emergency Fund.
