Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Lizzie Armitstead for national championships

Start list for the 2014 British road race national championships released (June 26-29)

Mark Cavendish wins, British road race national champs 2013

Bradley Wiggins (Sky), Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), Lizzie Armitstead (Boels Dolmans) and Laura Trott (Wiggle Honda) are among the riders on the start list for the 2014 British road race national championships at the end of June in Monmouthshire, Wales.

Cavendish and Armitstead are back to defend the titles that they won last year in the road race events, and will both come up against a host of continental and British-based riders in the fight for the red, white and blue striped jersey.

Sky professionals Geraint Thomas, Ben Swift and Peter Kennaugh will line up with Cavendish and Wiggins in the men's road race on Sunday, June 29. They will face competition from a strong line-up of home riders such as Kristian House (Rapha Condor JLT), Yanto Barker (Raleigh), Adam Blythe (NFTO) and Tom Moses (Rapha Condor JLT), who will all be looking to upset their continental counterparts.

Trott and Armitstead will be joined by Lucy Garner (Giant-Shimano), Sharon Laws and Hannah Barnes (both UnitedHealthcare) among many others  on the start line for the women's road race, also on Sunday June 29.

Before the road races, the national time trial titles will be decided on Thursday June 26.

Defending men's TT champion Alex Dowsett (Movistar) will ride against Wiggins, Thomas and David Millar (Garmin-Sharp) as well as in-form domestic rider Matt Bottrill (www.drag2zero.com), who won the 50-mile national time trial title on Sunday.

Jo Rowsell (Wiggle Honda) defends her national title in the women's time trial against Armitstead and Pearl Izumi pair Katie Archibald and Sarah Storey.

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
