Multiple national champion and record holder Michael Hutchinson added the 30-mile competition record to his list of achievements when he took victory in the Veterans TTA East Anglia event on Saturday.
The 37-year-old London-based rider sliced almost two minutes off the previous mark, set in 1998 by Team Brite's Matt Illingworth.
Hutchinson covered the E2/30 course near Newmarket in Cambridgeshire in 55-39, taking 1-52 from Illingworth's mark and winning the event by 3-37 from Team Pedal Revolution.co.uk's Nik Bowdler.
Elsewhere, Series winner Matt Bottrill (I Ride RT) pulled out of riding the penultimate round of the Rudy Project Time Trial series on Saturday, citing a cold for his decision to bring his season to a close.
"I've been suffering from a cold for the last week, and I've just got to the point where I need a good rest," he said. "It has been such a good season and I really wanted to win the last one, along with the series. But it's time for a much needed rest!"
The seventh round of the series, Saturday's event was run off on a 29.8-mile course at Willoughby-on-the Wolds in Nottinghamshire. The women, veterans, juniors and disabled race covered 14.9 miles.
Sigma Sport's Wouter Sybrandy - the only man to have beaten Bottrill in a Rudy Series event this season - took the win in the latest event, clocking 1-04-28 to win by 42 seconds from Jeff Jones (Chippenham & Dist Wheelers).
Oxford hill-climbing ace Tejvan Pettinger looks to be the man on form at the moment for the National Championships at the end of the month, the Sri Chinmoy CT rider having beaten rival and former national title holder Matt Clinton (Mike Vaughan Cycles) for a second time in as many weeks.
Pettinger won both stages and the overall in Otley CC's events on Saturday which covered Guise Cliff and Norwood Edge in West Yorkshire.
Pettinger beat Clinton into second by five seconds in the opening 1,400-yard climb, while Clinton was edged into third in the Norwood Edge climb, with Swedish mountain bike international Gunnar Gronlund (RST Racing) taking second spot in both the Norwood climb as well as the overall.
In Gear-Quickvit RT climbing ace Pete Tadros appears to be hitting some good form ahead of the national championships.
He broke the course record in the Kingston Wheelers' hill-climb on Leith Hill on Saturday morning, winning by 14 seconds with 3-34.4. And he narrowly missed out on another course record later on Saturday when he won the Sussex CA hill-climb at Steyning Bostal by 26 seconds, clocking 4-05.0 to come within less than nine seconds of Jim Henderson's 2005 mark.
There was also a course record performance from Robert Gough (Adeo Cadence RT) in the Severn Road Club event on Hinton Hill in Somerset. His time of 1-47.8 gave him victory by exactly ten seconds and beat Michael Smith's previous record by three seconds.
