Matt Bottrill continues winning streak with Port Talbot Wheelers 25 win

Heavy rain, wind and cold temperatures ended hopes of seeing the 25-mile competition record broken, but there were still some superb times clocked in the Port Talbot Wheelers event at Glynneath in Wales on Sunday morning.

Michael Hutchinson's national record of 45-46 survived, and Hutch himself had to settle for fourth spot having clocked 47-02 on the day.

Victory went to prolific winner Matt Bottrill (Drag2zero.com) who covered the R25/3l course in 46-13 to go within 27 seconds of the record, a time which was good enough for the win by 23 seconds with IG-Sigma Sport's Ryan Mullen taking second with 46-36.

But despite the torrential rain, many riders still went home happy with new personal best times.

Elsewhere, Kent teenager Calum Anderton (Motivo RT) was crowned GHS Champion after he won the final in Leicestershire on Saturday.

The 16-year-old from near Deal clocked 22-29 for the 10-mile course near Husbands Bosworth, taking the win by just 11 seconds from Isle of Man rival Matthew Bostock (Royal London 360), while Gabriel Evans (Prestige VC) completed the podium in third place, another two seconds off the pace.

Fastest of the girls in the GHS title race was Abby Mae Parkinson (RST Racing Team) who clocked 24-49 to finish 36th.

In Essex, Colin Ward (Essex Roads CC) proved fastest in the Eagle Road Club 45-mile time trial at Ugley on Sunday.

His time was 43 seconds faster than veteran runner-up Trevor Burke (Finchley RT), while third spot went to another veteran, Roger Maidment (East London Velo), who was more than three minutes further back.

In Cheshire, Simon Bridge (Manchester Wheelers) notched up another victory when he won the ABC Centreville 25 at Goostrey with a time of 52-39.

He was more than three minutes faster than Paul Grindley (Liverpool Century RC) in second, while Neil Skellern (Team Swift) took third, another minute off the pace.

Over ten miles, Jon Simpkins (Drag2zero.com) won the Leamington C&AC event hear Rugby in Warwickshire on Saturday.

He was 18 seconds quicker than Team Corley Cycles rival David Kiernan, while Jeremy Pile (VC Sevale) was another 12 seconds back in third.

They also had a two-up event where one of the riders had to be female, and the winning duo was Team Echlon-Rotor's Peter Ward and Rosie Armitage with 22-05, who were 41 seconds quicker than Robin Corder (Stratford CC) and Team Echlon's Alison Bagnall.

And in Surrey, Rob Sharland (Kingston Wheelers) won the Redmon CC 10 at North Holmwood with a time of 20-45, which gave him the win by 55 seconds from GS Stella rival Dave Sheppard.
