Mikel Landa takes stage two win and overall lead at Giro del Trentino
Mikel Landa attacks to win stage two of the Giro del Trentino and take the overall lead in the four-day race
Mikel Landa (Team Sky) overturned his time deficit the race leaders by attacking to win stage two of the Giro del Trentino and take the overall lead in the race.
Vincenzo Nibali (Astana), who sat 14 seconds ahead of Landa in second place after stage one's team time trial, conceded 35 seconds to Landa on the uphill finish in Anras.
Landa attacked on the 14 per cent ramp at the finish to distance himself from the peloton, with second place Sergey Firsanov (Gazprom-Rusvelo) finishing four seconds later.
Damiano Cunego, winner of the Giro d'Italia in 2004, claimed third on the stage, 13 seconds down on Landa.
Landa's time gap over the leading Astana rider, Jakob Fuglsang, gives him the overall lead by 10 seconds over the Dane with two more mountainous stages to finish the race.
