The track cycling events at the Olympic Games in Rio are still two weeks away, but Great Britain's men's team pursuit squad have showed they are right where they need to be in practice.

Training at the Newport Velodrome while at their pre-Games holding camp in south Wales, the four-man squad reportedly beat the world record time for the four kilometre event.

According to the South Wales Argus, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Owain Doull eclipsed the time of 3-51-659, set by Team GB at the Olympics in London four years ago.

The temperature in the velodrome was cranked up to simulate the conditions the riders will face in Rio next month - conditions which are conducive to fast times.

The official record is held by Clancy, Burke, Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas, set as they won gold in the event, beating Australia by nearly three seconds.

Great Britain and Australia are favourites to make the gold medal race again in Rio on August 12.
