Tom Boonen celebrates his second Paris-Roubaix win

Belgian sprinter Tom Boonen is due to have his case for inclusion in the Tour de France heard in a Paris court on Thursday.

Tour de France organiser Amaury Sport Organisation had stated that Boonen was not welcome to take part in the race after testing positive for cocaine twice in the past year.

Although no formal sanction has been brought against the Quick Step star, ASO feel he has brought the sport into disrepute.

Boonen and Quick Step feel that he should be included in the race, and that ASO has no right to exclude him since no formal suspension has been put in place.

Boonen's lawyer Jean-Louis Dupont is hoping for a court injunction to enable the rider to be on the Tour de France start line in Monaco on July 4.

Former Associate Editor

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
