A rider takes us round the finishing circuit in downtown Doha, which will stage all of the races at the UCI road World Championships

The man made Pearl Qatar island in Doha will be a very busy place over the next 10 days as the UCI road World Championships comes to town.

A circuit on the island will play host to all of the road races as well as the individual and team time trials, so before you watch the races on TV take a look at this video to see where all the key points on the route will be.

As was mentioned by many riders when the Tour of Qatar used this circuit in the spring, there are a lot of roundabouts and plenty of hairpins. With the parcours being absolutely pan flat the peloton will be travelling at some speed when they hit these 180-degree turns, which will surely cause a few hairy moments as riders jostle for position.

On the whole, though, the roads in Qatar are wide, meaning there will be plenty of room for teams to manoeuvre and get their sprinters in the best position for the finish.

The final kilometre starts after another tight turn, but the sprint will be contested over a long straight kilometre where we’ll surely see one of the peloton’s fastmen take the rainbow stripes.
