Sergio Henao takes lead in Tour of the Basque Country

Sergio Henao wins ahead of Carlos Betancur, Tour of the Basque Country 2013, stage three

Sergio Henao (Sky) won the third stage of the Tour of the Basque Country to move into the overall lead.

Henao put in a late attack from a reduced group of favourites to bridge up to escapees Carlos Betancur (Ag2r) and Giampaolo Caruso (Katusha). Henao initially came around the two breakaways, but fellow Colombian Betancur managed to keep in touch and then set up a slow-motion side-by-side sprint on the 21 per cent gradient.

Nigel Wynn
Former Associate Editor

Nigel Wynn worked as associate editor on CyclingWeekly.com, he worked almost single-handedly on the Cycling Weekly website in its early days. His passion for cycling, his writing and his creativity, as well as his hard work and dedication, were the original driving force behind the website’s success. Without him, CyclingWeekly.com would certainly not exist on the size and scale that it enjoys today. Nigel sadly passed away, following a brave battle with a cancer-related illness, in 2018. He was a highly valued colleague, and more importantly, an exceptional person to work with - his presence is sorely missed.
